Nauryz

Nauryz Traditions & Celebrations

Nauryz, the festival of spring and renewal, brings people together to celebrate harmony, generosity, and new beginnings.

Traditional Activities

Celebrate the season by cooking and sharing Nauryz kozhe — a festive seven-ingredient soup made with grains, meat, and dairy that symbolizes abundance and renewal.
Welcome the new year by cleaning and decorating your home, inviting good fortune and prosperity.
Dress in traditional clothing — colorful dresses, embroidered jackets, and festive scarves that reflect joy and unity.
Gather with family and friends around a dastarkhan (holiday table) filled with national dishes such as baursak, kazy, pilaf, shelpek, dried fruits, and sweets.

Festive Events

Join community celebrations featuring open-air concerts, national games, and lively dances.
Experience traditional sports like arkan tartu (tug-of-war) and asyk atu (sheep knuckle-bone game).
Enjoy folk performances — soulful songs, dombyra melodies, and colorful cultural dances that honor Kazakhstan’s heritage and the spirit of Nauryz.

Kazakh language club

Kazakh Language Speaking Club — “Ana Tіlіm”

We’re excited to welcome you to the Kazakh Language Speaking Club “Ana Tіlіm”, a community space for anyone who wants to practice and improve their spoken Kazakh in a friendly, supportive environment.

The club is organized by the Kazakh-American Association of Silicon Valley “Nomad Bridge”, with the support of the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in San Francisco.

What to Expect

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage in conversations on everyday topics

  • Build confidence in speaking Kazakh

  • Meet others who share an interest in Kazakh language and culture

Republic Day of Kazakhstan – October 25

Meaning:
Commemorates Kazakhstan’s 1990 Declaration of Sovereignty — the first step toward independence. A celebration of freedom, unity, and progress.

Turkic Festival

The Turkic Festival was a vibrant celebration of unity, friendship, and cultural pride — bringing together communities from across the Turkic world. The event showcased the richness of Kazakh traditions while embracing the shared heritage of many nations.

Event Highlights

Traditional Yurt Display – a beautiful presentation of nomadic artistry, hospitality, and craftsmanship.
Greeting Ceremony – elders warmly welcomed guests and participants with heartfelt blessings.
Concert Program – a lively mix of dances, songs, and the soulful sounds of the dombra filled the stage.
Cultural Engagement – visitors took part in interactive sessions, learned about Kazakh customs, and answered fun cultural questions.

The festival united many Turkic nationalities, creating a joyful and colorful atmosphere filled with music, laughter, and the spirit of togetherness. Guests discovered the beauty of each culture — learning, sharing, and celebrating diversity in an atmosphere of harmony, warmth, and pride.
